BKS and the community

BKS endeavours to support its local community with particular emphasis on the community in Penge and Catford.  We endeavour to forge links with those who reside in our community and to support that community.

Each year BKS supports a charity chosen and voted for by the colleagues in BKS.  For the year 2007 BKS are supporting St Christopher’s Hospice Sydenham which is local to our Penge office.

St Christopher’s Hospice exists to provide skilled and compassionate palliative care of the highest quality.

St Christopher’s Hospice was founded by Dame Cicely Saunders in 1967 and her extraordinary contribution to alleviating human suffering has resulted in the Hospice being considered a centre of innovation and insight ever since.

The Hospice cares for around 2000 patients and their families each year.  The families are generally from the South East London community.   Most of the Hospice’s patients have cancer, some motor neuron disease, severe heart failure, or chest disease.  St Christopher’s is a registered charity and receives one third of its funding from the National Health Service.  St Christopher’s needs twelve million pounds a year to maintain its present levels of service and the balance is therefore raised from grants, legacies, the generosity of its supporters, voluntary funded raising and its charity shops.

This year BKS will be supporting the NSPCC. More details to follow.

BKS Children’s Creative Competition

This year BKS Penge division commenced an annual competition for the school children of St Anthony’s school in which they were asked to submit pictures using the theme “what makes us happy”.

All children who entered the competition received a prize and the school received book tokens of £100.

There were two winners chosen from each year and each winning child received a book token of £10 each.

It is hoped that this becomes an annual event supporting the children in the local community who are thrilled to see their pictures which hang in the reception area of the BKS Penge office.

Environmental Awareness

BKS Solicitors are aware of their environmental impact both in terms of use of computers, paper and general office supplies.

As part of its ongoing commitment to improving client awareness and social awareness BKS is reviewing all of its working practices with environmental issues and health issues in mind.
